Every page on this site is a document. This one is a talk, which means it is also a document — written as prose, in the same editor as everything else.

The outline is the deck

A heading starts a slide. There is no slide editor and no slide array stored anywhere: convert this page to an entry and you have an article, convert it back and you have the talk again. Nothing is lost either way, which is the rule every page type here follows.

The audience follows the speaker

Press Present and this page starts broadcasting which slide you are on. Anybody else reading it is offered a Watch button — and then they see what you see, moving when you move.

No screen share. No second tool. One awareness field on a page you both already had open.

What that costs

A slide index, and only while somebody is in the deck. Presence here has always been per PERSON rather than per tab, so a presenter with two windows open is one presenter, and the room counts the people in it.

It is still a page

Close the slides and the talk is prose again: server-rendered, in the feed, in the sitemap, searchable, and readable by somebody with JavaScript switched off. A deck that is only a deck would have given all of that up.
