The Rust port of Yjs, and the reason a server can hold a document rather than just relay it. Without it the backend would be a message bus with a database attached, and nothing server-side — no SSR cache, no seeder, no janitor — could read a page it had not been handed.

The two implementations have to agree on the format exactly. That they do is what makes a Nitro process and a browser tab peers rather than client and server.
