No start, no end. A timeline sorted by date has nowhere to put this, and the interesting question is what it does about that.

It sorts last. Not first — that distinction is the whole point. An undated document treated as "unknown, therefore earliest" climbs to the top of every feed on the site and pushes real content off the front page, which is exactly what happened once and is why the rule is written down.
