Making it look like yours

Open the settings from the studio bar, or press ⌘, — every control there writes to the tree, so the site restyles for everyone watching while you drag the slider.

One grey

The whole interface is built from a single neutral ramp, and picking a different one repaints every surface at once. That sounds obvious and was not: the chrome was once written in four palettes simultaneously, so changing the site's grey repainted about a third of it and the rest shrugged. A surface colour that is not a step on the ramp is a bug.

One accent

Colour is for the backdrop and for people. The accent drives links, focus rings and the logo mark — which is drawn from the accent rather than shipped as an image, so it follows a change instantly and in both colour schemes.

Surfaces

glass, soft and solid are a performance lever as much as a look. Frosted surfaces are re-read by the compositor for every layer stacked over them; solid removes them entirely. Measured on the settings page itself: fifteen frosted surfaces on glass, four on soft, none on solid.

Backdrops

Nine patterns, an optional photograph behind them, and a shader option. The pattern blends against the photograph rather than floating over it — five of the nine multiply or screen, and they blend against whatever is immediately beneath them or against nothing at all.
